Training and Capacity Building
Strengthening skills. Building institutional capacity
Training and capacity building help turn maritime policy into practical action. AMSSA’s proposed training offer focuses on supporting Member States to strengthen the knowledge, skills and institutional capabilities needed for effective maritime administration.
Through workshops, practical learning and shared resources, the programme would connect international requirements with the day-to-day responsibilities of maritime authorities.
Areas of support
Maritime administration and governance
Support learning on the roles, responsibilities and working practices of maritime administrations, including coordination between relevant national authorities.
Convention implementation and regulatory practice
Help officials understand key IMO instruments and their practical application through national legislation, regulations and administrative procedures.
Inspection and audit readiness
Support practical learning on inspection procedures, evidence management and preparation for maritime administration assessments and audits.
Knowledge exchange and institutional learning
Encourage peer learning, sharing of experience and the use of common guidance to help administrations retain and apply knowledge.

How to request support
Training requests can identify the participating institution, the skills or capacity gap, the intended participants and the preferred subject areas. Proposed activities should then be considered against programme priorities, available expertise and funding.
